அயலகத்தில் தமிழமொழியும் அகராதியின் தேவையும் [Tamil language abroad and the need for dictionary]

Language is an effective tool that aids in expressing intentions, desires and thoughts of humans in many different ways. However, there are some languages in the world that are being used only in the spoken or written form. Languages that exist in both forms are the ones that are regarded exceptional. A dictionary organises the words offered in languages with such qualities in a structured manner and provides meaningful explanations. Dictionary helps to have knowledge on the different forms of words and their various meanings. Dictionary which can be classified as monolingual, bilingual, and multi lingual has many procedures to be compiled and released. When we look at dictionaries used by Singapore schools during examinations, Chinese, Malay and Tamil languages have 46, 8, 6 dictionaries respectively. Besides Tamil Language, the other two languages have electronic dictionaries. This affects Tamil students who are learning the language at a second level. Such conferences would need to research alternative ways to resolve this. Additionally, dictionaries that can be used by students with ease have to be created with code mixing and code switching in languages taken into consideration.
