Abstract
This report is firstly to study the motivation and learning behaviour of first year accountancy and business students. The Study Process Questionnaire (SPQ) by Biggs (1987) is used to conduct the survey of the students' study process at Nanyang Business School (NBS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU. The result of the survey is analyzed to find out the study process of the students. Recommendations are made for improving their study approaches for the quantitative subject "Business Statistics". Secondly, to analyze the problems encountered in conducting lectures of this subject for a large group of these students. A survey is done to find out different views of teaching this subject. A pedagogic framework that integrates active learning in teaching this subject for a large group of students is recommended. Some active strategies are suggested for improving the teaching. Lastly, to evaluate the assessment of this subject for a large group of these first year undergraduates. A survey is done to investigate the reliability of the current assessment of this subject. Various factors affecting the reliability and validity of the assessment can be detected .from the results of analysis. The improvement of the student assessment is proposed and discussed.
