This presentation is on postmodern literature, Tamil culture and life in today’s context. Postmodernism began in the 1930s and has a strong impact on people’s lives even today. Its impact is evident in education, student-teacher relationship, curriculum development, research and analysis (Kretchmar, 2017). In our globalized lives, there are many cultural features, places and identities of a ‘woman’ in under privileged communities. The lives of Tamils in today’s world are some of the commonly used examples for the critical themes of postmodern literature. At the same time, there are many new thoughts about culture, Mother Tongue language preservation, interactions of cultures, hybrid identities of humans etc.; selected novels from Tamil Language have exposed many features of post modernism and the youth’s preferences in today’s postmodern literature. Following Modernism, Post modernism has its peak in many western countries and its wings have been strong in Tamil Nadu for the past two decades. The State could witness a significant change in lifestyle, way of communication, thought process and the day-to-day transactions. An increasing number of stories have dichotomies of old and new ethics, women then and now, family relationship and individual relationship, etc. This presentation will analyse postmodern literature and the Tamil community’s changing landscapes in India and overseas.
