Abstract
This transcript was from Sari Bahasa programme broadcasted by SBC, W2, about the word 'azan' or call of prayer. Like any other basic words, the word 'azan' can be used with affixes, although not all affixes are suitable for the word as its usage depends on the consumer community's needs and acceptance. The word 'azan' is in the classification of nouns, and every noun may be formed to be a verb using affixes. When the word 'azan' is attached with the affixes of 'me-…-kan' or 'di-…-kan' it will change the word's classification. The words 'berazan'. 'terazan', 'pengazan', 'keazanan', 'diperazan' and such have not yet been used in the Malay language because these are not yet accepted by the community even though it is not wrong in terms of morphology. People use the phrase 'melaungkan azan' which means to make the call of azan for 'berazan' and use the word 'juruazan' or 'muazin' to call the person who does the azan to replace the word 'pengazan'.
