சிங்கப்பூர் இலக்கிய வகைமைக்கு வழிநடைச்சிந்து இலக்கியத்தின் கொடை [Vazhinadaicinthu’s (A kind of poetry sing when people travelling from one village to another village) contribution to Singapore literature’s categories]

Vazhinadaicinthu was sung to praise the deity at the Singapore Buddha Racecourse Road, Bramman temple. This piece serves as a rare work, which brings more glory to Singapore’s history of Tamil literature. Although the book was released in 1937, it has not gained popularity. As such, this paper aims to change this situation and share insights to how this book contributes greatly to Singapore’s history of Tamil literature. The book was composed by V. S Muthu Nadar, Pudukottai Jilla Muthu Pattanam. In Atrupadai literature, the lead character’s hometown and places concerning him would be addresed. Following that, this trend was evident in epic literatures by describing the significance and characteristics of the country and city. This component is also present in Folklore literature as seen in Vazhinadaicinthu. This paper explains how the book portrays Singapore in the olden days and as well as how dialogues are present in between songs all while having a religious basis. This paper re-examines many of the olden words that are no longer used by the Tamil community in Singapore today and also sheds light on facts about Singapore that the Tamil community many not have been aware of.
