Abstract
With an emphasis on thinking as one of the three initiatives proposed by the Ministry of Education, there is a need to conduct research to access a better way of integrating thinking to the teaching of writings. Thus an aim of our experiment was to determine whether the use of the process writing with special emphasis on brainstorming and mind mapping helps to improve the writing skills of Upper Secondary pupils in a neighbourhood school. An experiment study done on the one hundred pupils comprises of fifty pupils from the experimental group and a total of fifty pupils from the control group were conducted. The pupils are from the Secondary Three and Secondary Four. Both groups are from the Normal Academic stream. The pupils from the experimental group are taught through the process writing. Meanwhile pupils from the control group are taught using the traditional method. Results indicated that pupils using the process writing methods performed better than those taught using the traditional convention of teaching writing. In addition, it has been observed that the pupils' attitudes towards writing have also improved significantly.
