Abstract
This study investigated the assessment of ten student compositions which were eventually submitted as part of the 2004 'O' level Higher Music requirement. The purpose was to compare the reliability of two assessment methods (Criterion Based Method and Consensual Assessment Method) which have been widely reported in the assessment literature. The adoption of primarily nonparametic analysis using EXCEL and SPSS to evaluate the assessment of the compositions revealed consistency in the rankings of the ten compositions, with one method being more reliable than the other. However more studies are recommended to confirm the findings as the analysis had revealed some contradiction and complexity in the assessment data.
