Abstract

The lack of conformation changes in strict sense and indicating different grammatical meanings determine the significance of Chinese functional words. Functional words represent some abstract grammatical roles, usage is flexible and very close ,which led to even advanced learners will also be a variety of function words errors. During the process of teaching Singapore Higher Chinese Language students, we found that they make many errors in using Chinese functional words. The present research in this field is relatively scarce, which stimulates us to do some further studies on previous foundation.
Under the guidance of basic principles on theories of interlanguage and the principles of error-analysis, we differentiated the collected huge amount of language corpus, made analysis on them and discussed the causes of these errors. We also proposed some suggestions on the teaching Chinese functional words in Singapore. We hope this analysis can improve the teaching effects and raise the learning efficiency of Singapore students and contribute to the development of the teaching of Chinese Language in Singapore.
