Abstract
This dissertation focuses on the relation between children's literature and China Mainland primary Chinese textbook as the research topic. Through theoretical knowledge and research, the outcome, at the same time, provides advices and suggestions to the writing and publications of future Mainland primary school's syllabus.
The dissertation defines the concept to the teaching in primary schools. It nail down on the importance and position in children's literature segment and their physical-mental development. Using primary education teaching material (People's Education Press) as an example, there is a noticeable improvement of the teaching materials and syllabus used from the period of 1986 to 2001 and in 2004. Analyzing the changes made in the 2004 version, it proves the importance of adopting the new teaching material to clarify the past misapprehension.
The basic analysis of this dissertation is obtained from the survey conducted on children of different levels. We discovered that these children are showing interest to children's literature. The majority has found the adoption of the new syllabus to be more useful and more beneficial. Nonetheless, the majority desired for more literature studies in the syllabus. The conclusion above arrived mostly from senior language teachers, children's literature professionals and authors of textbooks.
Finally, I compared and analyzed other Chinese locals and China Mainland teaching material and syllabus. I would like to advice Mainland China to extract the favorable points from other teaching materials and syllabus to improve their teaching materials. For the future syllabus, it should focus more attention on the needs children physical and mental development. It should consist of more literature passage composed by famous persons for children. However, it should reduce on passage created for adult knowledge. Students from upper levels should be introduce to higher and more challenging literature especially science fiction. Chosen articles and passages should be more assortments. If there is a need, passage should be edited and necessary changes to be made. While using the syllabus, they should reinforce children literature and carry out more language practices. They must also train teachers in the teaching of children's literature to make full use of children's literature.
