Abstract
A project entitled Language and Social Support Networks: A comparative study of
Chinese, Malay and Tamil speaking children in Home, Community and School contexts in
Singapore (Saravanan, et al.1997) was recently initiated between NICER, National Institute of
Education and the Speech Department, University of Newcastle Upon Tyne Newcastle, in
January 1997. The current study is a bilingual research study of three generation families in
Singapore, Chinese, Malay and Tamil speaking three generation families (that is, families
with children and grandparents).
