This paper presents the rationale behind the reconceptualization of a computer education programme for pre-service and in-service teachers in Singapore. It indicates the new directions for computer literacy in teacher education. The courses in the programme begin with using the computers as information processing tools and progressively incorporate knowledge and skills in using computer assisted learning packages across the curriculum and in programming. The results of the implementation of the courses are also discussed.-
