Abstract
In this thesis, the author examined the relationship of man and nature as reflected in Tao Yuanming's nature poems. The author began with a brief introduction on the poet' S life and thought and continued in Chapter Three with a detailed discussion of Tao Yuanming's views on the relationship between man and nature.
The author also examined the possible influence of the Taoist master Zhuang Zi on Tao' s poems. The author observed that Tao Yuanming, to a large extent, was influenced by Zhuang Zi in terms of his view of a close relationship between man and nature. Such a relationship, as appeared in Tao' s poems. was not altogether harmonious.
In Chapters Four and Five, the author studied how Tao Yuanming, through his use of images and language, reflected his views on the various relationships between man and nature. The author was of the view that through the use of natural images and simple language, the poet has succeeded in reflecting the close relationship between man and nature. In this regard, the author cited numerous examples of Tao Yuanming's nature poems to further illustrate that Tao's language, in line with his views on man and nature, was simple and clear as there was no obscured vocabulary, jagged syntax and mechanical parallelism.
In her conclusion, the author discussed the significance of her study and explored the directions for future studies.
