Abstract
The objective of this paper was to research and examine the various methods of producing and transferring photographic images onto ceramic surfaces. This paper also contained results of experimenting with the adaptation of alternative materials for unavailable materials for producing photographic images on ceramic surfaces. A general historical background of photography and it's application in ceramics was also discussed in Chapter 1. The various uses and methods of producing photos on ceramics were described and highlighted in Chapters 2 and 3. The practicality of using some of these processes in the Singaporean context, particularly in schools was in turn challenged and examined in Chapter 4 which consists of tests constructed using modified methodology and locally available materials and equipment. Chapter 4 also highlighted an improvised method, the "Potassium Dichromate - White Glue Emulsion" process, which was adapted from the gum bichromate process, using materials available in classrooms. The results of the tests proved that even though various materials were no longer in production or were not available in Singapore, the production of photographic images on ceramics could still be taught in Singapore classrooms using adapted materials and processes.
