Chapters two and three introduce Yang Wanli's attitude towards life, his poetic practice and his literary methods. Yang Wanli is basically a very optimistic person. He has a positive attitude towards life and in his poems, he expresses his love for life and also his love for Nature. To a large extent, his positive attitude towards life and his love for Nature influence the style and content of his poems. Moreover, he believes that in writing poetry, one should derive ideas from Nature and the style of writing should also be lucid and natural.
In chapter four, the content of Yang Wanli's nature poems is explored. In chapter five, Yang Wanli's literary techniques are closely examined and illustrated with his poems. Through detailed study of his poems, it is found that Yang Wanli tends to personify Nature. The structure of his poems is often unique and full of unexpected changes. The language he uses in his poems is basically simple and natural.
