Abstract
成语是中华文化的瑰宝。丰富多彩的成语典故、出处,可以激发学生学习成语的 动力,同时学生在阅读成语故事也可提高学生的语文素养。
新加坡成语教学多以教师为中心,教材和课堂教学都由教师做主,教学时为考试服务,学生被动学习,成语教学的结果是学生们测验考试表现很好,但在作文和日常应用能力却不足。
本研究探讨了在成语教学中以教师为中心和以学生为中心的学习模式的对比。研究结果证明,华文教学中使用PBL 模式能够提高学习的兴趣和活用成语的能力。
设计有效的教学互动以提高学习绩效是教育工作者的责任,也是一项很有意义的研究课题。在资讯科技带动全球化的趋势下,身为教育工作者应该注意这股趋势所带来的挑战:学生面对未来是否更具信心,并拥有正确的价值观,能否能积极构建属于自己的世界?任何教育所涉及的事情,不是解决问题,就是准备解决问题。而这些解决问题的技能与教育部倡导的二十一世纪全面教育是不谋而合的。

Most Chinese idioms are derived from ancient literature. Through the reading of the idioms’ stories or origin, students will gain a deeper understanding of their meaning in order to apply them to their daily lives; on the other hand, students are exposed to Chinese classics which will enable them to appreciate the beauty of the literature.
The teaching of idioms is usually teacher-centered. The content and learning approach are decided by teachers, followed by a class test or exams. Students' learning attitude is largely passive due to their main objective being to score well in the exams. Surveys have shown that students indeed do very well in the exams but are weak in applying the idioms in their writings and oral communication.
Problem Based Learning (PBL) was used as the student-centred approach in the learning of Chinese Idioms.
Research has shown that engaging students in the learning process increases their attention and focus, motivates them to develop higher level critical thinking skills and promotes a meaningful Chinese Language learning experience for all.
It is in every educator’s scope of responsibility to derive resources so as to continually improve on teaching and learning thus making this a very meaningful research project. With tremendous ongoing changes around the world, will students be better-equipped and confident to deal with their lives? Will they also inherit values so as to build a more gracious world for themselves? Education plays a vital role in preparing students to solve real-world problems and this is the crux of the 21st century blueprint in education.
It is my hope that this research will serve as useful reference in the teaching of Chinese Language in schools.
