Abstract: | In this chapter, we share the journey of how educational leadership developed in Singapore from its infancy during Singapore’s independence in 1965 to an education system that is internationally recognised as one of the top performing educational systems in the world. This context will help the reader to appreciate the wider environment under which the educational innovations described in subsequent chapters came about. As this is a relatively long chapter, for readers who are familiar with the historical development of educational leadership in Singapore, we recommend that it will be sufficient to just review Table 1 to obtain a quick overview of the developments for the purpose of appreciating the context of the educational innovations described in subsequent chapters. |
