Abstract:

This transcript was delivered in a program Sari Bahasa broadcasted by SBC, W94.2 and is about the words 'tajaka' and 'taska' (childcare centre). Apart from the term and acronym differences, the 'tadika' and 'tabika', there are other terms used for calling the place for caring of young children while their mothers went to work. In Singapore, such places are called 'taman jagaan kanak-kanak' with the acronym 'tajaka'. In Malaysia such a place is called 'taman asuhan kanak-kanak' with the acronym 'taska'. 'Tajaka' and 'taska' are different because people here consider such places to function as 'tempat penjagaan' while the people there consider such places to function as 'tempat asuhan'. There is no Indonesian term which is similar with 'tajaka' or 'taska'; perhaps the culture of sending children under the pre-school age for working mothers has not been there yet. There is a 'Taska' in the Indonesia but it is the acronym for the 'Tabung Asuransi Berjangka' which is systematic fund system.
