Abstract:

This speech was given at the closing ceremony for a language camp. The speaker believed that the activities that was organised would increase the students' knowledge and interest in the Malay language. Therefore, it was necessary to nurture interest and awareness on the proper use of Malay language correctly. Extracurricular language groups such as LDDS in schools was a good platform to be familiar with the proper use of the Malay language. This could be done by expanding its range of activities from their regular activities such as debates, cultural arts and talks to having informal conversations that use the Malay language correctly. These informal conversation events did not require any preparation and only required participants' interest and knowledge on the use of Malay language. The speaker hoped that the language camp and activities was well used as a place to nurture awareness and interest among the participants towards the use of Malay language in Singapore.
