Muhammad Ariff Ahmad. (1984). Ucapan pembukaan rasmi Pertemuan Penulis Singapura III [Official opening speech at the Singapore Writers' Meet III; Speech transcript]. https://hdl.handle.net/10497/20204
Abstract:
Penerbit.

This speech was presented at the official opening of the writers' meeting and the program of this meeting will be focusing on novel writing. The publishing of novels is not the same as publishing other literary works because its volume depends on the number of its readers. The speaker shares his experience as an interviewer for applicants applying for Scholarship/Bursaries from MUIS and LBKM and concluded that there are not much novel readers. He suggested that writers or unions of the writers to think about the possibility of having a three P meeting (Penulis. Penerbit. Pembaca) to get reports/feedback to increase the number of novel readers. The speaker is of the view that if the writers in this Singapore Writers III meeting, which is also attended by writers from Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei, have the passion to expand Malay novels in the region, their ability and resilience in expanding the growth of novels in the country should be the same level with the development in the region. Thus, Singapore writers will feel that they have contributed meaningfully and will not have the stress of being inferior.
