Custom or tradition is an internalised aspect of human culture. It is accepted mutually as a rule even before constitutional laws are recognised as a form of authority that maintains the wellness, peace and life of the community. Singapore's Malay customs have changed from time to time and many have been scaled down or modified in line with the teachings of Islam and also due to the environmental changes in Singapore. The writer also mentions customs which have ceased or been modified. |
