Abstract
Su Shi' s poems following the rhymes of Tao Yuanrning, which were written in his late age, are generally regarded as less natural and therefore less good than Tao' s original ones. However, through an analysis of the content and style of these poems against the backdrop of Su' S life, political attitude, philosophical orientation, and poetic style in general, this thesis presents a different view. It concludes that Su, despite a lot of suffering throughout his rugged life, remained a person as optimistic and open-minded as before and his poems following the rhymes of Tao are admirable in that in assimilating Tao' s style they keep characteristically his own: exuberant, spontaneous, and unrestrained.
