Abstract
This thesis aims to study the compiling, planning and usage of Hanyu pinyin in facilitating the learning of Spoken, Reading and Writing of Chinese as a second language. The study is being carried out through the analysis of three representative teaching materials for Chinese as a second language. I have made suggestions towards the planning and teaching models of Hanyu pinyin after comparing the three teaching materials.
There are seven sections in this thesis. Section one begins with the introduction portion, section two to four analyze the Hanyu pinyin teaching models used by the three teaching materials. The analysis covers the teaching of initial consonant, simple finals, compound finals, four tones and rules of Hanyu pinyin. In addition, the analysis also includes the study of how Hanyu pinyin is being as a tool to facilitate the learning of Reading and Writing of Chinese.
Section five compares and analyzes the Hanyu pinyin teaching model of the three materials, and how effective are the three materials in using Hanyu pinyin to help students to learn to read and write Chinese words.
Section six is my reflections and suggestions towards the Hanyu pinyin teaching model of these three teaching materials. My objective is to provide reference for the development of Hanyu pinyin teaching model in teaching Chinese as a second language. Lastly is the conclusion of this thesis.
