Abstract: | This study investigated three main questions: a) What is the factor structure underlying the proposed Growth Mindset Scale in the Asian sample of Singapore? b) Is the proposed Growth Mindset Scale able to show evidence of convergent validity? c) Is the proposed Growth Mindset Scale able to show evidence of divergent validity? This study explored the relationship of the proposed Growth Mindset Scale with resilience, the two facets of grit, perseverance and passion, and aggression in an Asian sample (N=377) comprising of children. The factorial structure of the proposed GMS showed that the 2 – factor model (fixed and growth mindset) had good fit indices for both EFA and CFA. Growth mindset was found to be significantly and positively correlated to resilience and both facets of grit. Fixed mindset was found to be significantly and negatively correlated to resilience and both facets of grit. Growth mindset was found to have no relationship with aggression. However, fixed mindset was found to be significantly and positively correlated to aggression. Implications of these findings are also discussed. |
