Abstract
This thesis deals with the synthesis and bio-physicochemical characterization of benzaldehyde and substituted salicylaldehyde dibenzyl semicarbazones and their rhenium (I) carbonyl complexes. A series of benzaldehyde and substituted salicylaldehyde dibenzyl semicarbazones have been prepared and were reacted with bromopentacarbonylrhenium(I) in refluxing toluene to give the corresponding rhenium(I) tricarbonyl complexes. All the synthesized ligands and complexes were characterized by 1H-NMR, IR spectroscopy and elemental analyses. The cytotoxicity of the synthesized compounds against the MOLT-4 leukemia cell line was determined via the colorimetric MTT assay. The study shows that the rhenium (I) carbonyl complexes are strongly cytotoxic against MOLT-4 cells.
