Abstract
This thesis presents a systematic cooperative group learning model for facilitating the teaching of case studies to business students. The model includes such steps as preparation, group formulation and organization, individual study, group discussion, random group sharing, presentation and reflection. A number of experiments have been conducted during 1995196 academic year to examine the use of the model in the Nanyang Business School at the Nanyang technological University, Singapore. The results indicate that not only the dynamic of a tutorial class has been changed but also the students' motivation has been enhanced. More significantly, students are able to achieve deep learning through cooperative effort. However, a systematic structure of a cooperative learning process, an encouragement of active participation in group discussion, and a supportive role of a tutor are essential for the successful implementation of the model.
