Abstract
This paper begins by describing general models of learning and assessment. It focuses on the constructivist approach to learning and how this approach is built into the various instructional and assessment tools utilised in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. The effectiveness of CATAM (Computer Aided Tutorial and Assessment Monitoring) is investigated in detail by way of questionnaire surveys on both the tutors and the students.
