Abstract: The aim of this paper is to report on the use of computers in high and low stakes English language testing. The paper starts with an outline of the functions of English language testing in order to contextualise the electronic varieties. An explanation of Computer Adaptive Testing in high stakes testing is then provided. Computer use in low stakes testing is demonstrated via personally designed examples.
