Abstract
This study examines the influence of students’ attitude towards their teachers and school on their academic procrastinations. Data was collected from a sample of 664 Secondary One, Two and Three Express, Normal Academic and Normal Technical stream students in a neighbourhood secondary school. Using correlation and regression statistical analyses, the results from this study showed that students’ attitudes towards their teachers and school correlate significantly with academic procrastination. Regression analyses indicated that students’ attitudes towards their teachers and school were predictive of their academic procrastination. This means that students who have negative attitudes towards their teachers and school tend to procrastinate in their academic work. Reasons explaining the impact of students’ attitude towards their teachers and school on their academic performance were cited.
The study also examined the role of gender in students’ attitude on academic procrastination. Results obtained showed that gender has an influence on students’ academic procrastination. Separately, the data collected also indicated that male and female students differed in their attitudes towards their teachers and school. Finally, the limitations and implications of this study are also discussed.
