Abstract
The present study aims to explore the potential utility of two instruments, i.e., the Raven’s Standard Progressive Matrices - Plus Version (SPM+) and the Adaptive Behavior Assessment System-Second Edition (ABAS-II) as screening tools for potential intellectual disability (ID). Participants were 77 students currently studying in an alternative school in Singapore. Using the Full Scale Intelligence Quotient (FSIQ) of the Wechsler’s Intelligence Scale for Children-Fourth Edition (WISC-IV) as a criterion, the current study examined the predictive value of these two measures to the WISC-IV FSIQ. Results showed that the Raven’s SPM+ could be used as a screening tool for potential ID for students from this school. A cut score of the Raven’s SPM+ catering to the profile of the population was derived to guide future screening practice. In contrast, the ABAS-II was not suitable as a screening tool for potential ID among this group of students.
