Abstract
This qualitative study assessed the relationship between different strategic types of National Sport Associations (NSA's) in Singapore and their use of Information and Communication and Technology (ITC). Participants were NSA's affiliated to the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC). Data was sourced from 32 NSA's with a questionnaire that was developed that was developed for this study . The questionnaire was viewed by experts in the sports management research area for verification and pilot tested with students at the National Institute of Education and two NSA's in Singapore. Interviews were conducted with senior administrative officers from eight of the responding NSA's. Each of these eight NSA's was then represented by a case study for the analysis to evaluate the presence of themes and patterns of strategic ICT use.
All NSA's were found to have a strategy, but not all were explicit or planned . A correlation may exist between Strategic Types of NSA's and their use of ICT, but further research in this area is required for verification. ICT was perceived by all NSA's to be assistance in attaining efficiency, but not all NSA's were utilising it to its potential. The main limitations to implementation of ICT were identified by NSA's as costs and resources, however it appeared to be dependent on the NSA leadership of management, and level of strategic planning.
