Abstract
This study explores the impact of directed viewing-thinking activity (DVTA) on students' critical thinking skills and dispositions. Eighteen students were involved in the study. The three major research questions are (1) Have the students' critical thinking skills improved after attending the series of DVTA lessons? (2) Do DVTA lessons provide the environment for nurturing the critical thinking dispositions? (3) Have the students enjoyed and benefited from the series of DVTA lessons?
The following instruments are used: argumentative essays (pre and post), a questionnaire and the students' journals. The argumentative essay test evaluated using a self-constructed rubric based on the literature review is used to determine the students' critical thinking skills and dispositions before and after the study. The questionnaire is used to find out students' perspectives of the lessons while the students' journals are used to triangulate the findings.
The following findings emerged from the study : (1) the majority of the students have improved during the post argumentative essay test for critical thinking skills ; (2) DVTA shows the potential to cultivate the students' critical thinking dispositions; (3) students have enjoyed and benefited from the series of DVTA lessons.
