Abstract
This study is a training needs assessment (TNA) on teachers teaching in an international school. Though the school has been functioning for a few years, it only started to operate as a full school recently. The management of the school is committed to put in more facilities and resources to support the learning and teaching in school. One of the major add-in for the resource is technology. The management would like teachers to integrate IT into the curriculum.
The goals of this study are (1) to determine the work tasks that the organisation wants the teachers to perform in the use of IT and (2) to find out the proficiency level of the teachers in IT skills and knowledge as well as their opinion. The main purpose is to differentiate the training needs from the training wants.
The method adopted for this study is a combination of two main TNA approaches, Sam McClelland's hierarchical and open system (1992), and Catherine M. Sleezer's performance analysis for training model (1990). The former gives some steps on how TNA can be conducted and, at the same time it encourages cross-linking. The second approach focuses on three main analyses, organisational, work-behaviour and individual capabilities. The data collection methods are survey, interview, and document studies which allow cross-checking of information gathered from the same or different groups of participants.
Bases on the analysis results, the conclusion of this study presents the recommendations of some training plans which meet the organisational objectives in the use of IT and match the needs for different groups of teachers.
