Literature can be classified under various genres such as poetry, essay, short story, novel and drama. They can be further divided into sub-genres. Under fiction short stories, novels and novellas are similar in some ways but differ in many ways. This essay examines Tamil novels and novellas that emerged in Singapore, focusing on their themes and contexts. Due to space limitations, this work provides a broad overview of Singapore Tamil novels.
