Nannoolaar has mentioned that language should be praised. Although the Tamil diaspora has been living on different land, they have maintained their culture, tradition and language with great care. This paper serves to show the influence of classic literature on Tamil diaspora literature using Singapore and Malaysian poems as a case-study. The two broad aspects of classical literature, namely Agam and Puram are present in the varied forms of today’s poems. Many themes of the past, on which our predecessor based their works on, such as chastity, worship, valor have branched out and become apparent in other forms in today's works. The impact of classical literature is not limited just to today’s literature, it will spread beyond and influence future works as well. The classical literary aspects found in Singapore and Malaysian poems are presented under the following classifications: the joy children bring, country, viewing everyone as a relation, family life, education, love, hard work, state of deprivation, poem structure, imagination.
