Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the concerns that ECA coaches in Singapore schools have with teaching psychological skills to their athletes. The Concerns Based Adoption Model (Hall et al., 1977) was used as a framework for identifying the concerns that coaches have about teaching Psychological Skills Training (PST). A modified version of a Stages of Concern questionnaire that was developed to identify the concerns that teacher had with a curriculum innovation was sent to all the 365 schools in Singapore. PST can be viewed as a curriculum innovation in sport and therefore the instrument as well as the model from which it was derived is relevant for coaches.
The results of the investigation generally support the developmental nature of concerns among coaching groups. However, it is evident that if the developmental/educational approach to PST using coaches is to be effective then more attention should be given to the Information, Personal and Management concerns of coaches at all levels.
