Abstract
The main aim of this research is to study the relationship between teachers' job maturity level and their preference for the principal's leadership style. The study was designed (1) to determine how the level of 'maturity' of teachers differ in their preference for the amount of control exercised by the principal; (2) to find out if there is any difference in the preferred leadership style, when the teachers' characteristics such as gender, age, experience, qualification, post held and main subject currently teaching are considered
The study was carried out using ex-post facto research design. The sample for the study consisted of 313 teachers selected from a population of secondary school teachers. Fifteen teachers from each of the selected 26 secondary schools were asked to complete the questionnaire. Finally, 313 usable questionnaires were returned and used in this study.
Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data across the schools. Computations of the means, standard deviations, frequency distributions, percentages and correlation analysis were done with the aid of the Microsoft Excel Programme Version 7.
