Abstract
This study investigates the attitudes that Malay Language teachers teaching in primary school have towards using computers in the classroom. The terms computers and IT are used synonymously in this study. The teacher life cycle theory is used as a framework for analyzing the data collected from surveys, interviews and observations from Malay language teachers in the different stages of their careers. The literature in this field of research is extensive and there are a number of surveys available to measure attitudes. But for the purpose of this study, a self-designed survey, interview and observation schedules are used to gather data. From the analysis of the result, it shows that teachers with less than 3 years experience (survival stage) and teachers with more than 30 years experience (retiring stage) may have less then positive attitudes compared to teachers in the other categories. It is recommended that more training and support to be extended to these groups of teachers. Engaging expert technical personnel is also a good move. Furthermore, it is recommended that teachers be empowered to identify their competencies and to suggest appropriate training to meet their needs.
