Abstract
This study explored two main questions: a) What is the factor structure underlying LSAS-CA-SR in the Asian sample in Singapore? b) Is LSAS-CA-SR able to show evidence of convergent validity? This study examined the specific traits of social anxiety, mainly fear and avoidance, and their relationship with depression, withdrawn behaviour and aggression, in an Asian sample (N=296) consisting of adolescents. The factorial structure of the LSAS-CA-SR in this study showed that the 2 - factor model (fear and avoidance) yields the best fit using EFA. Total anxiety was more strongly and positively correlated with anxious/depressed behaviour compared to aggressive behaviour. Total anxiety was more strongly and positive correlated with withdrawn/depressed behaviour than aggressive behaviour. Total fear was more strongly and positively correlated with anxious/depressed behaviour than aggressive behaviour. Total fear was more strongly and positively correlated with withdrawn/depressed behaviour than aggressive behaviour. Total avoidance was more strongly and positively correlated with withdrawn/depressed behaviour than aggressive behaviour. Implications of these findings are discussed.
