Abstract
Learning a second or foreign language in the classroom is not always an anxiety-free experience. Research has repeatedly showed that language learners are generally different in their demonstrations of
anxiety (Horwitz, et al., 1986; Aida, 1994; Saito, et al., 1999). Learners' self-report about their worries and expectations in the process of learning the target language for academic success and other purposes has been a concern to language educators (Young, 1999). However, how learners experience this kind of anxiety in a study-abroad context, i.e., away from their home country, has been insufficiently explored. For this reason, this paper attempts to understand the degree of language learning anxiety of a group of PRC students studying ESL in Singapore.
