Abstract
In this project, I investigate the home reading habits of 6-year-old children as they enter primary school. Knowledge of pupils’ reading behaviours can help teachers provide more focused reading instruction. An aspect of reading behaviour which may be assessed is pupils’ home reading habits. A deductive literature review is conducted to identify the home reading characteristics of young children for the development of a home reading survey tool. The developed reading survey tool is trialled with English language teachers who teach reading to 6-year-olds. It was found that the teachers found the developed reading survey tool useful in supporting their pupils in their reading journeys.
