Abstract
The research method used in this study was the Experimental Design. The sample comprised 80 Secondary Two Express students and 80 Secondary Two Normal Academic students. The two groups consisting of 40 girls and 40 boys each were randomly assigned into the control and experimental groups. The experimental group (N = 80) and the control group (N = 80) were each made up of 20 Express boys, 20 Express girls, 20 Normal Academic boys and 20 Normal Academic girls. The experimental group was given computer-assisted career guidance followed by one feedback and debriefing session. The control group was not given any computer-assisted career guidance and feedback session.
The computer-assisted career guidance made up of five computer sessions, spend over four weeks. Each session lasted 40 minutes. Crites' Attitude Scale, of 47 'true' or 'false' items was used for the pre-test and post-test. A General Questionnaire was administered to both the groups to gather information on the students' social economic status (SES). The Crites' Attitude Scale assessed career maturity in five aspects via five subscales i.e. Decisiveness, Involvement, Independence, Orientation and Compromise.
ANCOVA showed that there was very significant difference between the experimental and the control group. ANCOVA also showed significance difference in the Independence aspect between the different gender groups and significant difference in the Involvement aspect between the different streams in the experimental group. Correlation showed significant relationship between SES and career maturity of the 160 students only in the Involvement aspect.
