Abstract
This study explores students‟ use of blogs in a primary school context. The aim of the study was to find out what students liked about blogs; the challenges or problems they faced in using blogs; and what motivated them to use blogs. A case study approach was adopted and data were collected through online reflections, triangulated with data from face-to-face interviews. The constant-comparative method was adopted to generate common themes on data gathered from the research questions. Each case study was analysed individually before a cross-case comparison was carried out. Findings from the first two research questions also uncovered reasons which motivated the students to blog. Such reasons include: having more interesting ideas or experiences to share; having more online resources; learning the language; maintaining cordial relationships; having more time for reflections; and voicing comments without speaking up in class. Students‟ motivations to blog seemed to suggest that the students were subconsciously meeting one or more psychological needs, namely, belonging; competence; freedom; and fun, and the need for competence was the most prevalent amongst students in this study.
