Abstract
Mr Lee Kong Chian has made a valuable contribution to Singapore education. His belief of “giving back to the society” guided him to contribute actively to schools building and talents cultivation. In 1934, Mr Lee Kong Chian served as the chairman of The Chinese High School, responsible for the school's annual funding, construction costs and etc.. At the same time, he also served as the director of nine other secondary schools and more than a dozen clan association. These schools included SJKC Nan Yik “Lee Rubber” School, Tao Nan School, Dao Qiao School, Kong Hwa School, and Qiao Nan School. In 1953, Mr Lee Kong Chian responded actively to the sponsorship towards the establishment of Nanyang University, emphasizing that Nanyang University was run to inherit and develop excellent Chinese culture. He has contributed both money and efforts to Chinese education throughout his life, and has made an indelible contribution to the development of Chinese education.
