Makalah ini meneliti aspek kejiwaan dan konflik batin manusia dengan mengaplikasikan Teori Psikoanalisis Lacan. Kajian ini meneroka pengalaman pengarang A. Samad Said dari aspek bawah sedar. Beliau menampilkan keresahan dan pergolakan jiwa watak-watak dalam novel Keledang yang terbingkai dalam daerah kejiwaan manusia iaitu; Rekaan, Sebenar (Real) dan Simbolik.

A study of the connection between the literature of three areas (Singapore, Johor and Riau) was begun in 1987. The spirit and vision of these three areas was followed up with activities that accelerated the regional development of language, literature and culture. Dialog Selatan (Southern Dialogue) and meetings of scholars and intellectuals were among initiatives undertaken to reach a common goal towards preservation. What is the hope and aspiration behind these literary activities? This article explores initiatives taken and challenges faced by the three areas in preserving their literary ties throughout the 1990s. This article also introduces the efforts made to collect manuscripts and artifacts of Riau literature in Singapore, with the hope that it will open up ways for continued efforts towards the culture of research on materials in literature.

This article discusses Malay poems, especially as reflected in the syair of the Riau region, which have been classified as history poems. Two syair, Syair Kisah Engku Puteri and Syair Sultan Mahmud di Lingga, which each concern characters from the royal court of Riau-Engku Puteri Raja Hamidah and Sultan Mahmud Muzaffar Syah-will be focused upon. Tales about these two characters also appear in the historiographical text Tuhfat al-Nafis. On the whole, history poems are about events such as wars, travels, deaths, and marriages, and concern particular historical figures with the aim that these events are recorded. Using the concept of cultural memory to explore the relationship between history poems and memory, this article shows that the writers of both syair use their individual memories in their works. This is done in order to retain and store a private remembrance, and transforming it to produce a collective remembrance while shaping the public view of a fragment of history not captured in Tuhfat al-Nafis.

Literacy-building materials in primary school classrooms do not only improve language abilities, but also play an essential role in the construction of their own identity as children. In the Malay Language syllabus for primary school students named Cekap (2015), a series of supplementary readers known as buku kecil (literally translated as the small book) are included for Primary One to Four students. These books utilise narrative storylines. Additionally, language-based exercises are extracted from these books and provided within the activity books. This study examines 32 supplementary readers within the syllabus. Using childism as a theoretical framework, the content analysis seeks to uncover biases, prejudices and misrepresentations of children and childhood within the mentioned books.

Kajian ini membincangkan ciri-ciri rawsyanfikri sebagaimana ia terungkap dalam karya Masuri S.N. Penelitian dibuat dari sudut pemikiran dan kepengarangan beliau melalui karya-karya dalam genre puisi dan prosa, khususnya sajak, cerpen dan penulisan esei berdasarkan tiga peringkat pengkaryaan beliau.

Syair, a form of traditional Malay poetry believed to have been adapted from the Persian or Arab civilization, has been a popular performative art in the Malay world, including Singapore. It has evolved since its first introduction to the Malay Archipelago with the coming of Islam, and what constitutes as syair today is a culmination of its language structure, aesthetics, and depth of author’s insights as a form of the Malay community’s creative art. Once prevalent amongst the Malays until the 1970s, syair has significantly declined in popularity with the emergence of modern poetry and printed prose, and modern-day forms of entertainment, among other things, though it is still familiar to the urban and contemporary Malays in Singapore. Based on the data collected from a research project (2018 to 2020) in Singapore, this paper demonstrates that syair in the form of rare hikayat (tales) texts and manuscripts are still kept as personal collection and family heirloom. Albeit dwindling in number, the art of syair recital is slowly eroding if not for individuals who perceive the preservation of syair texts and the art of syair recital as their honourable responsibility, akin to preserving the Malays’ social memory and collective wisdom.

This book is a compilation of writings by the author, Mohd Raman Daud on a literary figure, Dr Muhammad Ariff Ahmad or Cikgu Ariff as he was affectionately known. The author shares his personal encounter with the esteemed educator, author and community leader who had dedicated a great part of his life to Malay language and Malay teacher's education.
